Jeopardy!

One of my college suitemates is on Jeopardy this week.  I haven’t had a chance to watch but I hear he is doing very well.  I found because I actually work with his uncle.  I worked in the same unit as his uncle for two years before switching departments and never knew they were related.  Small World Syndrome in effect.  Everyone be sure to root for Andy the Alphabet Man!

Sad news

Justin’s mother passed away this week at the age of 57.  I didn’t have the pleasure of really knowing her but I had met her on a few occasions.  When we were in school she was nice enough to let me come over for Thanksgiving Dinner one year when I couldn’t get off work to go home.  She will be missed.

Welcome to the world!

Welcome to the world baby Liam!

Congrats to Kelly and Justin!

(okay I give props to Kelly a bit more, she did have to push 9 pounds!)

We are so happy for the both of you!

Good stuff

Yay!  Art got a job.  He’ll be starting at Brier Creek on Friday.  I’m glad he wasn’t completely screwed.  We should be going to dinner with his new woman this weekend.

Lots of fun this week.  Work, work, work and then work some more.  I get to go in tomorrow night, on my night off, to help build prints.  Why are we getting 7 prints this week?  Is that really necessary?

Memorial for Mark

We had the memorial service for Mark last night.  It was really nice.  The Marquee cancelled all their shows after 7 pm and we set up in an auditorium.  I would guess about 200 people came.  Some friends spoke about their memories of Mark and I think, or at least hope, it provided closure for those that needed it.  The common remark was that he was the kind of guy that would do anything for you, and not expect anything in return.  That is definitely the Mark I remember.  He will me missed greatly by friends and family.

Mark Buhaug is gone

When I started working at the Raleigh Grande 8 years ago I never thought I’d still be working there.  But working in a theater kind of gets into your blood.  The smell of the popcorn, the free movies, the late night conversations about the most random stuff you can think of.  I’m sure Mark felt the same way which is why he worked in theaters for so long.   He was the head projectionist at the Grande when I started and taught me a lot.  A few years ago he was offered another opportunity and he took it.  He left the Grande and work to work for Marquee Cinemas in Wake Forest.  I had talked to him a could occasions but only went to see the theater and him once.  We talked business and it was good to see him.  He had been offered a job back at the Grande but was waiting to hear if he would get the soon to open General Manager position with Marquee.  I told him it would be a bad move for him to come back to the Grande.  We had just been sold to Regal and would soon be sold to yet another as yet un-named company.  He was surprised by this new news of having to be sold in the coming months.  Well, he was offered and accepted the job as GM with Marquee a few months ago.  This past Friday there was an ATTEMPTED robbery at Marquee and Mark was shot and killed in the process.  As of Monday all 3 people involved had been caught.  One of the bastards put up a good chase but was finally caught in NJ.  Of the two teenage boys, one was an employee at the theater.  The older guy, it turns out, was the step-father of one of the boys.

There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday night at the theater for Mark.  He was the type of guy who would do anything to help out a friend.  He was a really nice guys who didn’t deserve to be the victim of such a random act of violence.  I can only guess he either recognized the voices of the assailants or didn’t have enough money in the box office to make them happy.  For whatever the reason, he didn’t deserve to be killed.

Thank You Easter Bunny! Bark! Bark!

Okay, so maybe the Easter Bunny didn’t come to our house this year because we weren’t so well behaved, or maybe he didn’t get our change of address card, I am not so sure. What I do know is that it was a beautiful weekend with Spring weather. It was the 1st weekend of Spring.

Friday, my mom and I took Hailey and Christopher out to Family Swim night. They are learning to swim which is something I think every person should learn to do. If you have swam all your life you will never know what it is like to fear water. These kids, while taller than 4 feet were afraid to let go of the wall of the pool in 3 feet of water. I personally don’t get it because I have always been a fish but these kids were terrified like I have never seen before. So, swim lessons it is and the improvement has been amazing.

So, if you don’t know how to swim, don’t know the Dead Man’s Float, then learn. Put it down on the top 100 things you should know. (hummm sounds like a list is coming on……)

Hope you had a great weekend!!!!

Oh, Happy belated birthday to our friends Gary Moe and Casey Blackburn! We may be 5-6 weeks late, but we did remember!

Congratulations to me!!!!

I did it! I passed! Today I passed the North Carolina state certification test for Nurse Aide I. I feel high as a kite right now! I hope to start working part time as a CNA at Wake Med or Rex.
